A sample of staff comments |
- Gained understanding about cross-cultural communications and rights,
roles and responsibilities.
- I thought it was a really well structured and organised day. It
was very informative. It would really make me think before I say something,
or when I go to deal with a situation I would try my best to consider
everybody’s opinions.
- What a racist incident is. The Allport Pyramid - how it doesn’t
just apply to the colour of your skin. A reminder that we have a
responsibility in our society to show way of life.
- An in-depth feel of problems that could be happening in the work
environment.
- Issues that need to be addressed in school and class. Different
points of view. Group discussions.
- A lot of re evaluation of own views and a clearer idea of procedures
to deal with racist incidents.
- A fuller understanding of all the different types of racism.
- To review my own attitudes and assumptions – particularly in
relations with other members of staff – thanks to the theatre
workshops.
- A clearer understanding of what racism is about.
- A greater understanding of religious and cultural diversity. Personal
need to have more knowledge about different religions.
- It opened my eyes to issues that I had not thought of, such as the
impact of asking an innocent question or making a comment. It has
broadened my knowledge and understanding.
- Awareness of how complex work is, but positive feelings about moving
forward and wanting to get things better.
- More understanding of what racism is and how it can affect anyone.
- It was an opportunity to share ideas and perspectives from others
across the school.
- I have enjoyed coming to school to meet and discuss issues with
school staff. I can use the issues learnt in my workplace. Health service
provisions
which is equally important.
- Chance to consider and discuss school’s approach to anti-racism.
- Different points of views and challenging questions working within
group and good discussions.
- To become more sensitive to children/parents/staff racial background.
- An excellent opportunity to reflect on own attitudes and values.
Very positive group work: sharing.
- About how to communicate with people. Also about racism and how
to deal with it.
- A much clearer understanding of the various aspects of discrimination.
- What and how to define a racist incident. The need for an anti-racist
policy and strategies in place for staff and pupils and parents.
Support network for implementing anti-racism amongst staff, pupils
and parents.
- A greater understanding of race equality which I can now pass on
to my own children.
- I have gained a lot from this inset. It has helped me to understand
more about racial harassment, discrimination and how people get offended
by name-calling. I enjoyed the day whilst I also learned a lot and
could share my own point of view.
- A chance to reflect on my practice. Gain new ways of thinking about
things. Update on the legislation.
- The workshop really opened my mind to what is going on in the world.
- So many things to learn from this session. I have gained a lot and
may be able to deal with any situation very well.
- A greater understanding of racism in a multi-cultural environment.
- It was extremely interesting and stimulating mentally. I learnt
some new things and enjoyed the day on the whole. Educated everyone!!
- Ideas, methods. Conversations – experiences, knowledge of
practices
- It made me more aware of how communication or lack of it can exacerbate
issues.
- Support from colleagues about racist incidents.
- The realisation of how far we still have to go to develop and operate
a race equality policy/agenda that everyone feels confident with.
