Issue

Some pupils, as well as some staff/governors and parents, have indicated that in their particular schools there was a feeling, particularly in the informal curriculum (and apparent in displays), that there was excessive focus on the Bangladeshi community to the detriment of the other minority ethnic groups within the school community, and the wider community of Tower Hamlets. Some people who have worked/lived in the Borough for quite a number of years have explained how it has moved from inappropriately ignoring the needs of the Bangladeshi community now to frequently losing sight of the needs of the other communities.

Recommendations

Audit of the informal/formal curriculum and displays. Ensure that diversity and similarities are appreciated and celebrated
