Racism
awareness training and valuing cultural diversity;
improved understanding and attitudes
to prevent racism - problems which exist; real and potential. Close co-operation
between other agencies, including local community groups, police and housing
et al.
Every school needs to have a clearly defined training strategy
that specifies how race awareness training will be delivered to all staff,
teaching and non-teaching, and to governors it is important that the strategy:
Builds on the existing good practice
Focuses on anti-racism and the positive reasons for non-discriminatory
behaviour;
Acknowledges cultural diversity and why we need to look at similarities,
as well as differences;
Relates to and includes values and beliefs and how these are formed;
Stresses the importance of how negative and prejudicial attitudes
and behaviour can have a profound impact on individuals and groups,
both personal and academic achievements
