Aim(s):
To challenge racism throughout the school community, and to celebrate cultural diversity within the school.
Achievements:
The project ran workshops on music, poetry and visual art with all pupils from Nursery to Year 6. An INSET session with the whole school staff was also carried out. Creative sessions were held after school with parents and governors. The outcomes of the project were presented over a day of performances attended by members of the whole school community, including many parents and year 6 pupils from neighbouring Stebon School. They witnessed the unveiling of four large collaborative banners produced by pupils and featuring poems, anti-racist statements and an image representing harmony from every child in the school. Each year group then performed poetry, pieces of music and song all around the theme of Harmony and anti-racism. The rich and varied outcomes will be used to form the basis of the school’s new web site, ensuring that the anti-racist message is at the heart of all that the school does. The project was managed by the arts organisation Cloth of Gold, in collaboration with artists and poets.
