This year EMA would like to encourage schools to bid for innovative projects to help develop a curriculum to reflect the local community of Tower Hamlets and focus on developing the oral skills of pupils. The funding would allow a school to work with HEC on developing a project that could then be shared on the school’s own website and with a wider audience. A school may want to target a particular community, white UK, Somali, Black African, Black Caribbean, or to target those pupils who need to develop oral skills. Although EMA are encouraging bids that develop the curriculum to reflect the community (a key area of the new Ofsted community cohesion requirement), they will also consider any bid that is clearly innovative.

A panel made up of a head teacher, an SDA and an EMA consultant will judge the applications.  The sum offered is £5.000 (£4,000 to fund HEC, £1,000 to the school, or £5,000 to the school for an innovative project)
