The areas for major national initiatives are Community Cohesion, Sustainable Schools, Fairtrade Schools, Positive Contribution, Enterprise and the New Curriculum, Extended Schools, Building Schools for the Future, School travel, and Who Do We Think We Are. The duty on schools to promote community cohesion came into effect on 1 September 2007 and the duty on Ofsted commenced in September 2008. A comprehensive look at initiatives for schools to become sustainable and the role of citizenship and student voice. The Government wants all schools to be sustainable by 2020. Guidance on how a school can achieve Fairtrade status. This is the fourth area of the five that covers Every Child Matters. It is where you will find the opportunities young people should have of volunteering, being active in their community and having their voices heard. By using co-operative, social enterprise your children can be active global citizens learning about and using the key tools for tackling poverty around the world.
